This is the third largest museum itself in Zurich and largest to be operated and run by the city of Zurich, itself. It is annually visited by about 200,000 visitors, annually.
The Museum is located in around 17 acres Rieterpark in central Zürich, and contains many historical buildings in it like the Wesendonck Villa, the Remise, the Rieter Park-Villa, and the Schönberg Villa. After the addition of this building the entire exhibition space to the museum has been extended to the double fold. The Rieterpark is located near Zürich Enge station, and can also be reached by the tram line.
It was in the early 1940s the city of Zürich procured the Rieterpark and the Wesendonck Villa. In 1949 the Wesendonck Villa was selected, by opinion to be reconstructed as a museum for the Baron Eduard von der Heydt’s art collection that he gave to the city in 1945. It was thus further carried out in 1951-52 under the architectural direction of Alfred Gradmann. The Rietberg Museum was opened on 24 May 1952. Until 1956 the director was Johannes Itten, who was the Swiss expressionist painter. In 1976, the city of Zürich obtained the Schönberg Villa, that was about to be demolished thus further used as the extension to the museum. Presently, Villa is home to a massive non lending library as controlled by the museum.
The Rietberg Museum is controlled by the presidential department of the city of Zürich and employs about 100 people. Around half of its funding comes from the city of Zurich, whereas another half is raised through revenue, sponsorship and charity. The collections here at the museum mostly get enriched by donations. The museum also has an in house museum that opens immediately after its start in 1952. At the beginning it published catalogues of the museum’s Asian and African artworks, as well as rather short monographs. The museum’s publishing activity therefore has risen to the level since 1985 in relation to large scale special exhibition center that it has organized since then. Presently, it publishes around six titles every year.

Lake Zurich is a lake in Switzerland, extending southeast of the town of Zürich. However it has received its name from the name of the part of the lake downstream of the dam at Rapperswil that is ideally situated within the access of canton of Zürich. The part upstream of the Rapperswil dam is named as Obersee, and is constructed between the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz.
The Lake Zürich is constructed from the river Linth that emerges from the glaciers of the Tödi Range in Glarus, that is further changed in its course by the Escher canal into the Lake Walen, there by the structure of the Linth canal. The water there is carried to the east end of the Lake of Zürich. The waters of the Lake of Zürich outflows from the lake to its north-west end, as crossing from the city of Zürich, yet the outflow there is possessed and called to be Limmat.
Linth is the only useful stream that flows into the lake. The Lake’s larger portion there is situated in the southern shore that too in carton of snowy towards its northern shore in Canton of St. Gallen. The large masonry dam (the Seedamm), that has a railway line by passing, divides the lake. The eastern section of the lake is known as the Obersee, German for “upper lake”. On the west side of this Dam are located small islands of Lützelau and Ufenau, where in 1523 Ulrich von Hutten took refuge and died. Both shores are well cultivated and are fertile. Another destination worth touring there is Au peninsula at the village of Au between Wädenswil and Horgen.
The three population and transportation centres around Lake Zurich are Pfäffikon SZ and Rapperswil. And there are only two spots one Burkliplatz in Zurich and the Seedamm are places where lake can be crossed through bridges. The Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft – the Lake Zürich Navigation Company for the comfort of commuters provides about 17 passenger ship and tourist services on Lake Zurich.
On the northwestern side of the lak,e Zurich is the largest city on the lake, on the western shore of the lake there is located many cities as they are Thalwil, Horgen, Wädenswil, Richterswil, Pfäffikon, and Lachen. On the eastern shore are situated cities of Küsnacht, Meilen, Stäfa, and Rapperswil-Jona. Rapperswil, is a medieval town and its castle protects a Polish museum. Schmerikon is situated close to the east end of the lake, and a little further east on the larger town of Uznach. Among all the churches in Zurich the blue spire of Fraumünster (Minster of Our Lady) is the most revered and graceful and is also popular for its glass windows by Marc Chagall.
Fraumünster is a Benedictine convent that was founded on this location in 853 by Emperor Ludwig (Louis the German), the grandson of Charlemagne. However, even before that there was also a convent on this site.
Ludwig’s daughter Hildegard became the first abbess of the convent. In 874, Hildegard’s sister Bertha added a simple basilica with a crypt beneath to hold the relics of Felix and Regula, the patron saints of Zürich who were martyred close there. The abbesses have the very powerful position in the 11th century and the convent was the home to many German noblemen till the 13th century.
The present church dates from about 1250, but the crypt of the old abbey church is still is conserved below it. The convent was closed at the Reformation. On November 30, 1524, the last abbess (Katharina von Zimmern) converted to Protestantism and donated the church and abbey to the city of Zürich. In following centuries, the Fraumünster was used as a place of praise and worship by Veltliner and Huguenot refugees and after that of the Russian Orthodox Church. It was extensively renovated in the 20th century, involving the addition of masterful stained glass windows as designed by an 80-year-old Marc Chagall.
The Fraumünster is better known for its stylish clocktower headed with a sleek blue spire. It stands on the left bank looking in the direction of the lovely Münsterhof square that once was a pig market. One can have the magnificent view of the church can from the tower of the Grossmünster across the Münsterbrücke.
One can make an entry into the church from a small door below the spire. Inside, there are three aisles, a Romanesque choir (1250-70) and a Gothic nave. The choir is well representative for its height (18m) and elegant simplicity. In the north transept is a large stained-glass window by Giacometti (1940s). This beautiful work of art shows God and Christ, eight prophets, the Four Evangelists, and ten angels.
The Chagall Windows are the primary attraction point of the Fraumünster and is the set of five stained-glass windows as designed by Marc Chagall in 1970. It can be best looked at in the bright morning light and with the windows which are about 10 meters high and with a distinguished color theme. There each window showcases the different depiction as the north one shows Elisha watching Elijah’s ascension in a fiery chariot. The left-most of the three windows on the eastern side shows the blue “Jacob” window that is patriarch’s wrestling match with an Angel of the Lord. This way each window has something very different to show up and display around.
